Alleppey feels more of a jumping off point for back-water tours, rather than anything of note in and of itself. The main beach is only really good for going for a stroll to watch the (always cloudy) sunset - it's not setup for daytime relaxation. Stepping into the town, there are very few good places to eat, and as a Westerner the lack of being able to sit somewhere with an alcoholic drink was rather strange (there are liquor stores you can buy drink from for consumption in private). We stayed as a base for five nights - two, or maximum three would have sufficed.

The beach was nice, Boathouse that we took was that good, we took the day trip boat food was not within the expectation was very disappointed as the cook was from norther instead of local cook. Therefore we had only 2 kerala dishes vegetable and friend wish other menu was Dhal, rice , chapati and raita, mix veg. The starting point of boathouse was very disappointing where we saw kids diapers , and other plastic garbage floating around. Hope they can maintain the clearness and also ensure local food is serve on the boathouse. Otherwise the journey was beautiful we took a smaller boat to visit the local houses more closer.

A nice place to visit just for a day.
A nice place to visit just for a day. We opted for Shikara boats, which worked perfectly. Some people may prefer to spend their nights in a house boat, although, It may be quite boring for such long hours in still water.
The Alleppey beach is a must visit. A lot of people also visit Marari beach, however, I personally prefer the Alleppey beach since its much cleaner.
Must try - Seafood (although I am a Vegetarian, so cannot comment on that).
Most likely, one may visit this place only once and there are very less things to do here. So planning the trip for 1 or 1.5 days is more than enough.

We did the Charlotte Cruise Boat at Alleppy as a couple for one night. The check in was better than most hotels we visited in India! Our host introduced us to the boat’s captain and chef! We were greeted with fresh coconut water and the check in was smooth. The boat was wonderful! Just like a hotel setting but on water. The views were spectacular and food was delicious! We got to pick our own fish from a local fisherman and got to go on a smaller canal boat for an hour whilst the sunset and see the narrower parts of the backwaters. The only drawback is we were not informed of the additional cost of this which was RS1000 but it was worth it!

Alleppey is probably the nicest town along this bit of the coast, its noticeably cleaner and friendlier than other more touristy places. The beach front is slightly spoiled visually by the new raised coast highway being built but once you've got used to the structure you sort of forget it and get on with other things. The town is going through a period of change and will hopefully get better once many of the old historic buildings have been renovated and put to new uses. The town has clearly suffered from changes in industry but there is a move by the town council to breathe new life into the region and the investment will be worth it and make Alleppey great again!

Only stayed here for one night, as we were planning to take the government tourist ferry from Alleppey to Kollam. However we were told that the ferry stopped running over 2 years ago and their website has not been updated to reflect this.
I had a wonderful experience/ stay at the hotel.. The hotel staff were exceptionally helpful and considerate... The night staff (Jinu) was was really great and helpful.. I had a personal issue with my mobile and he tried his best in supporting and assisting me... I would like to recommend this hotel to everyone who would prefer a safe and comfortable stay in alleppey town.
The room was clean, with adequate amenities and spacious.
The food was really great and tasty...
The staff was exceptional.. helpful and caring...
Perfect place for our needs. On the beach, close to Alleppey, yet very quiet. Private beach just 50 meters away. We had our room on the 1st floor with a nice terrace to sit and listen to the waves.
Delicious food, lady of the house is a master chef! Great Kerala style dinners. Roasted prawns and fish curry are superb.
The owners are super friendly and helpful. They arranged us tuktuk, day cruise, taxi when Uber was not working etc.
We had great time and recommend Xavier’s Inn warmly.
Regarding this trip i need to share a few things I need to share with u all. Alleppey is one the best to go and we have got a tour guide person named " Joseph John ". One of the best tour guides we have ever seen from Homestay to Return he always cares like a family member ( We travelled with him & He showed famous temples church & Museums... He showed the Coir Industry also..... Really we have enjoyed this tour... Thanks to Joseph
Our 4 days stay in Havana was nothing less than a dream trip, Location is ❤️ it's right infront of the beach, we can even watch sunset from the room. the location is exceptional. One of the best part is they serve homemade authentic Kerala breakfast n dinner. Subin, Sunil, Nobel all were very helpful. They were just a call away. If you are in Alleppey and a beach lover then this is the place to be.
Very beautiful property located near the back waters. Very peaceful and clean, the hosts were awesome people, very down to earth and discussing everything like family members. They helped us a lot about places to visit and arranged a boat ride and a cab for us to travel. I would definitely stay here again if I come to Alleppey in future. Thanks to Binu, her husband and the entire family.
We got a free room upgrade upon arrival since there was one available. The owner and his family are really kind and willing to help with everything. The food was very good and well priced! The room was made mosquito proof very well (which you kinda want in Alleppey).
Wifi was good and hot water worked fine.
We also did his houseboat tour which was great!
The scenery from the houseboat was really breathtaking. The staff was really enthusiastic to show us hidden view points which are really amazing . It was really a comfort stay with a clean boat and comfy room. Food was also really tasty. Varieties of fish and chicken were served. Overall an amazing experience one must have during their stay in Alleppey.
We really liked being away from the noise of Allappey and overlooking the waters, it was very tranquil. The hotel is on an island so you have to take a little boat across which was different and added to the magic of the place. The staff were lovely and friendly and very helpful with onward travel arrangements. The food was incredibly delicious!
I've had a perfect stay at Venitia. It's located in a peaceful, lushful and friendly neighborhood in Alleppey. The whole family are very nice and gave me a warm welcome. And the food there is amazing. The mom is a great cook, believe me !
Also the room was very clean,
When I come back to Alleppey I will definitely stay there again.
It is the best place to stay in Alleppey! comfy and cosy place to stay and owner jose organised a wonderful backwater tour with a combination of houseboat, canoeing and kayaking which is an awesome experience. He arranged me everything i needed during my stay. the food we had there is one of the best food we had in india.
This traditional houseboat offered a fun and relaxing adventure . I loved exploring the backwaters of Alleppey and witnessing a different way of life all from the comfort of a large boat with all the amenities. The staff was really sweet the food delicious and the sights are so beautiful. We highly recommend this one
The best homestay in Alleppey with stunning view of the ocean in front of you. Room was spacious with all the basic amenities & quite clean. Breakfast was very delicious & was served at the rooftop with ocean view. Om the host is really an amazing guy & will guide you with everything.
All 3 rooms are horrible. Wall is rotten, bed is bad. We never stayed before that kind of hotel & staff. Power was out but they’re not start generators. They are slipping, after calling they run the generator. Very hot day.
Manager & staff is not good or friendly.
What a lovely place and location to stay in Alleppey. The property is 170+ years old and still has a beautiful charm and character. The host is really good and very helpful. The views from the property is majestic (specially the sunset).
The house was in a great location, close to the bus and train station, and close to the backwaters. The hosts were amazing and accommodated our every need. We ended up staying 3 days and would recommend to anyone staying in Alleppey.
Loved the charm of Johnson’s. You can imagine the relaxed pre-Covid vibe. Johnson was charm personified and took a personal interest in us as a family and our stay with him and in Alleppey.
Very modern and spotless rooms. Some of the best rooms/facilities we have stayed at during our trip around India. Great value for money and perfect for a night or two in Alleppey.
