What I liked the most: historical sites, harbour, beach promenades, gorgeous public parks, relaxing atmosphere in the city and shops, very helpful and friendly people, always offered help when I was looking at the map without me asking, enough public toilets, fantastic food even in supermarkets.
What I didn't like: The bus stops of the whole journey are not listed at the bus stops. Only the name of the bus stop itself, the final destanation and a timetable. There is also a map with one million bus routes, but it is a bit confusing. No list of bus stops on buses either, although bus stops are announced. In the Aquarium you can only get an audio guide giving a ticket seller your ID, which will be returned to you only when you return the audio guide. It was the only museum ever in my experience, which needed to keep my ID until I return the audio guide. I wasn't ready to trust a stranger with the only document I had abroad, so I refused. I find such policy quite extreme.

La Rochelle is a beautiful place, great history and architecture and wonderful to wander around. Local food and wine was excellent.
Sadly we had rain a lot of the time so we didn't get to any beaches, and we took the 2 hour boat trip to Fort Boyard, but there wasn't much else to see, so I doubt I would recommend that unless you just want to watch the water for 2 hours. Some upscale shopping in the old town, and some wonderful fresh food and seafood markets.
A superb classical guitarist played in the street by the boats, in the late afternoon.
Altoether a pleasant place to spend a few days.

I'd been to La Rochelle about 20 years ago for work and had little opportunity to do the tourist thing. A beautiful town, excellent market and shops and great dining. Go for it if those things float your boat.

Beautiful place to visit. Plenty to see and do.
Beautiful place to visit. Plenty to see and do. Great choice of restaurants.
Easy to get around; if you arrive by car, leave it parked up because everywhere in La Rochelle is mostly walkable. Use the bus to get to La Pallice (for the WWII sub base) and the Île de Ré etc. and take the local or TGV trains from the La Rochelle central station to get further afield.

Not much to add to what I have put in my property review.
Not much to add to what I have put in my property review. La Rochelle is a picturesque old sea port with a lot of history (a main reason for visiting was to research for a novel I am writing about the Huguenots-this city played a major part in the 16th and 17th century French wars of religion) great architecture, outstanding fresh food market speciality sea food. The salt water aquarium is world class, much better than the one in the Berlin zoo which I saw last year.
UK fights to the small local airport are from Stansted only, I think (check). Easy access by train from Paris or Nantes. I would think carefully about driving here as parking is VERY restricted in the old town but there are no doubt possibilities if you are staying further out, and the buses are very good.
Great place, I hope to visit again.
This hotel is right in the heart of downtown La Rochelle along the harbor, so it is an easy walk to restaurants, the ferris wheel, and all the sights. We had a lovely room that was very comfortable and quiet. The toilet broke a part on our 2nd night, so we had a plumber in the room at 11:30 pm at night. These things happen, so it wasn't really the hotel's fault, but it disturbed our night's sleep. We felt the hotel should have compensated us in some way, but they didn't.
The room was not very big and the bathroom was small too but it has all what we needed (can allocate 3 person without problem).
The location is perfect just step away from the port and the center of all the attractions. It’s inside the old town so you have to walk just 2 minutes to get in to the marvelous old town of La Rochelle. The staff is very kind and overall the place is very nice.
The location was perfect, right in the heart of la rochelle. The staff are very frendly, welcoming and helpful, a credit to the hotel. Te bed was large and comfortable which made the room small and tight to manouver,. We idn't have breakfast as we like to explore and find new places to eat, you would pay €7.50 - €8.50 in the many cafes.
We were looking for somewhere to stay on our drive down through France, and we really struck gold here! A luxury hotel right in the heart of La Rochelle, we could walk out and find restaurants, bars and the bustling port, just steps from the front door, yet still find quiet and peace once inside the hotel. Stunning. We'd come again.
The location of the hotel is good - there are a lot of restaurants on the street , also a nice supermarket and local market are nearby and almost all attractions are easily reached by foot from here.
The breakfast is amazing here - defenetly, it was most rich on choices among all breakfasts from my current trip to the France.
Charming hotel with truly super staff. They really went the extra mile - guiding us into the underground car park, finding a table at a recommended restaurant, etc. The breakfast was described as the best in La Rochelle and it was certainly excellent. The location is great - right at the Old Port, in the historic centre.
Breakfast was expensive but very convenient. Wide range of foods -homemade cake, eggs and fruit and delicious breads and croissants. Drinks from a machine. The staff were all helpful and friendly and my son and I felt very comfortable there. The hotel was very quiet at all times - no noise from other rooms at all.
Amazing double doors and little balcony, overlooking the harbour and sea fort. La Rochelle is the city that never sleeps, and the most vibrant place in France that we’ve visited. The rest was usual budget standard. Bed was comfortable, staff friendly and kind. Children’s play park right opposite, by the harbour.
Location.
The help we received from the Agent in the Nexity Agency 11 Quai Valin, 17000 La Rochelle, France. who arranged with pick up office for us to drop the keys with her. otherwise we would have had to get a taxi again to return keys or a 80minute walk to return keys and back to train station
Hotel is located in an ideal location in the heart of La Rochelle.
Upon arrival the staff were very friendly and greeted us with a glass of champagne!
The hotel is modern, luxurious with an authentic old feel.
I would definitely stay again!
Excellent location for La Rochelle. It only takes a short ferry ride from right outside the hotel over to the old part of La Rochelle, or you can walk along the marina for 45 minutes. Excellent pizza restaurant right across the road.
Very cozy hotel with a great style. Lovely staff, very friendly and welcoming. Rooms a bit on the small side but had everything you needed for a comfortable night. I would definitely stay here again, time after time.
Very close to La Rochelle station - 5 minute walk. Hotel is very modern, looks like it was recently refurbished. Room was clean, comfortable. Nicely furnished.
