Hotel Royal Positano, hotel in Positano

Hotel Royal Positano is surrounded by Positanos rocky cliffs, which drop down into clear blue sea. Relax in lush gardens on extensive sun terraces.

The staff was impeccable! Mario greeted us and was very accommodating, he helped us with directions, how to get around, called for luggage porter and even checked on tickets for the Blue Grotto. The breakfast buffet was a huge spread, so we had dinner at the hotel both nights with live music! Highly recommend the filet and eggplant parm fabulous! The wait staff is fantastic, from David, Fredrica, Jonathan and our Sommelier. We loved having wine on the outdoor restaurant patio and balcony of our room, the view was incredible and gorgeous at night with twinkling lights. Mario upgraded our room because not many people this time of year, the room and the view was phenomenal, it was everything you imagine Amalfi coast to be!

View of the beach was incredible from our room. We paid a lot but we thought the hotel would just be "okay" thinking it was just the average price for hotels in the resort town, but in fact we were blown away by the facilities and quality of service. The breakfast buffet was incredible as well.

FAQs about hotels in Positano

The Jewel of the Amalfi Coast

Positano is a colourful Italian town in the Campania region, near Naples. Overlooking the turquoise blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea, this seaside paradise is home to traditional terracotta houses on a steep hill and a small marina with fishing boats.

Set on the Amalfi Coast, between the Lattari Mountains and the Tyrrhenian Sea, the holiday resort of Positano is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with ancient Roman architecture. Featuring white, pink and yellow houses, this place will amaze you with its pebble beaches and narrow streets with little steps.

Built in 1920, the old church of Santa Maria Assunta with the imposing dome is one of the main landmarks of the city. According to the legend, sailors brought the Byzantine icon of the Madonna after their ship got stopped in Positano and heard a voice saying ‘stop, stop, stop’.

The village of Montepertuso is a place 1000 metres above the sea level, with a stunning rock.Travellers can also take the ferry to Capri and Ischia.

Naples International Airport is about 30 km away and Booking.com will help you find a hotel, apartment or holiday home in Positano and the nearby cities of Praiano, Agerola, Vico Equense and Sant’Agnello.

The beauty of the town is unreal, but it is built on steep hillsides which means that narrow roads and switch backs are not recommended for the unseasoned driver not used to such terrain. If you're not in shape when you get there, you will be by time you leave. There are many, many, many steps and paths around the town. It's very picturesque but also very demanding physically. Probably not the best town for the elderly or those with physical challenges. Taxi's are the best mode of transportation though there is a good local bus system however, busses only come by hourly, and because of the congrestion they are rarely on time.

The views of Positano are amazing . Everyone is really friendly and the food amazing . You need to be fit to get up and down the hills and steps. There were 3 really good restaurants very close to Florida residence and they were all good but our favourite was Saraceno D’oro had the most amazing pizza and lasagne and the staff were all really good

One of the most stunning places I've ever visited.

One of the most stunning places I've ever visited. Relatively unspoilt as it's difficult to reach and very expensive. Felt like an exclusive holiday location. Colourful buildings springing out of the hills, beautiful climate and STUNNING flora and fauna. All in all, one feels like one has been dropped into paradise on earth. Visiting in April is to be recommended as it feels neither too hot nor too crowded. I can't sing its praises enough. Travelling can be tricky if you have older people in your party - almost every route around the town involves steep steps. Spoilt for choice in terms of eating - we didn't have a bad meal. Shout out to Il Capitano (higher end) and Il Fornillo (slightly more reasonably priced). Recommend day trips to Pompeii and Vesuvius, the Amalfi coast (from Positano to Maiori), boat trip to Capri and Anacapri, and Sorrento.

Positano is absolutely amazing, but be ready to walk a lot...

Positano is absolutely amazing, but be ready to walk a lot of stairs, on very very steep trails. Respectfully, this place is not ideal for unfit people. Depending if you’re staying close the beach or on the upper side of the city, you will either have to take the stairs with your luggage or get a taxi, which is not cheap there. There are a lot of good restaurants to choose from, and also very affordable, even though the city is rated to be quite expensive. The beach is relatively small, so don’t expect to find a spot to lay down on the sand if you’re travelling during the summer season. As we visited in march, the weather was 10-18 degrees Celsius, which was prefect, also we avoided the crowds and the Mediterranean summer heat of June-August.

Is picturesque. Very hilly so if you have mobility problems would be best avoided. It is expensive even for little things like snacks I found it financially beneficial to have a proper meal. Other than that an enjoyable place to visit.

The Amalfi Coast is a beautiful destination to visit in...

The Amalfi Coast is a beautiful destination to visit in Italy. Originally, when booking this location, I thought the area was sold out-it was hard to find accommodations. But once we arrived we learned that the entire Amalfi Coast pretty much goes silent from November to late March. The area has limited restaurants open as well as hotels. So we were lucky we found a home in which to stay. Use the bus SITA to buy a trip to Amalfi to spend 4-5 hours. Well worth the 3euro cost. Other locations available too on this bus line. Sorrento can be visited as well using the public transportation. The winding roads leading from Sorrento to Positano and then to Amalfi will leave you spell bound. Sharp drops, scenic ocean views and the lovely speckle of homes up and down these cliffs is just breath taking. Highly recommend a visit to the area.

The breakfast was wonderful and there were plenty of options to eat. There is a nice view of the ocean. The staff and owners of the property were very friendly and were very nice to my husband while we were away at our hike. The room had all the basic needs. There is only 1 road going in an out of Positano and in areas only goes one way. If you have walking issues you are best to stay at one of the hotels on the main road. My husband found it very difficult because of all the step and this hotel is not on the major road.

Incredible location for a reasonable price. Right on the beach and in the heart of Positano. The hotel is minimally staffed and does not have a front desk, which was no problem for us at all but I guess could be for others. The room was spacious, clean, comfortable, and had a magnificent view of the water with a small balcony. A/C worked great. Stay here if you want to be in the heart of things and don't expect to need extensive concierge services. Don't stay here if you want a lot of assistance with your trip.

Beautiful property, comfortable room, wonderful balcony overlooking the sea. This was one of our favorite hotels on our trip to Italy. The breakfast delivered to our room to enjoy on the balcony each morning was a highlight. Steps down to Arienzo beach club made it so convenient to spend time on the beach. Outside of the main busy area of Positano while still possible to walk down to restaurants and shops. Christian was very attentive and helped with anything we needed. The hotel has an exceptional view of Positano with a small pool that makes it very easy to relax. The staff at Villa Mary is by far the best I've seen in my life. Not enough good can be said about this hotel. It is a five star experience from start to finish. From the knowledgeable staff to the unbelievable accommodations (view/cleanliness/fresh flowers in the room/breakfast/overall beauty), this hotel will be hard to beat. My wife and I remarked that no hotel we have stayed in on any continent (particularly the ones labeled as "5 stars") were as nice as what we experienced here. We were treated like a king and queen. Casa Nilde is an unexpected little gem in Positano run by the most fantastic hosts, Francesco and Luigi. great location with beautiful views. it is relative high on the hill but very close to bus station. you need to hike down to beach via stairs or on the only one way road. Go stairs will be quicker and prettier while the road has more shops but noisy and lot of cars. 5-10 min walk to nearby restaurants since the hotel does not have its own restaurant. if you have limited time in the area, Positano is the best place to be and this property should be on your list

The sea view from the balcony was lovely. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast terrace was also gorgeous with an interesting selection of items. Best though was the enormous cappuccino. The hotel is about an hour brisk walk to/from Positano so it is less touristy and quieter - although vehicle traffic was a little noisy. There is a beach that is much less busy than the positano beach but it is a trek with stairs to get to/from.

Ocean view from the balcony. Hotel room renovated. Everything new and modern. Near good restaurants and the beach. As Positano is located in a mountain, you will have to climb a stair to return from the beach. There is a bus stop in front of the hotel that take you to main beach

The view from the balcony was spectracular. Maybe the best view in Positano. The reception personel was top. The hotel is just 10 minutes walk from the shops and the beach.
