We loved the Church of St.
We loved the Church of St. Peter and Paul - they feature vivid and colourful stained glass windows made by Harry Clarke. We were in there for way longer than we anticipated, the art was so detailed and interesting. We found handy parking round the back of the castle, but it was February and was quiet so no problems there.

It was a very friendly town, with many pubs, cafe's and restaurants.
Sean's Bar had a very good live music duo. We ate at The Fatted Cow, which served excellant food in a professional and friendly atmosphere. The town itself was easy to get around with good transport links to other towns and cities. It was a good place to be based at.

Front desk customer service was absolutely brilliant.
Front desk customer service was absolutely brilliant. THANKS to Eric the man is a legend. Good staff everywhere. Room was little hot but that was the weather we were having. ROOM was excellent Breakfast and a swim in the pool to it off .Thank-you one and all
Having stayed at the Athlone Springs several years ago, I was delighted with the new warmth and ambiance- the hotel is maintained to a high standard. The room was large and airy-thanks to the provision of an A/C we were comfortable during the warm nights. Staff were very friendly, welcoming and accommodating. There was a very good selection provided for breakfast - including creamy porridge. We were glad to avail of the evening meal which was equal to any restaurant in town and very fairly priced. Many thanks.
The location and privacy of the room was more than adequate for the time that I had spent in the room. The location was similar to where I had stayed in the last time that I had been in Athlone, and is very central to the town. While my standards for walkability are wildly different than most people's (I wouldn't decline a walking trip to Roscommon, for example), I felt like the town as a whole had a very accessible vibe and the location of this hotel was very conducive to that ideal.
This is my 2nd time to stay here, and I always enjoy staying here. There are always plenty of spaces in the car park upon arrival. The checking in process is simple. The rooms are very spacious, clean, comfortable, and quiet. The large TV in each room also has loads of TV channels to view. The staff are very polite and courteous, and it definitely beats other 5 star hotels that I have stayed in. I will always stay here, whenever I am in Athlone.
At ten minutes walking distance from Athlone town centre and the train station, we got a full-sized 2-bedroom 1.5 bathroom appartment with all ameneties and well-equipped kitchen, all much bigger than we've had before when booking a self-catering appartment. We only stayed one night, so it was a pity we couldn't really enjoy it completely; this would be an ideal starting place if you want to explore this part of Ireland for several days.
Fabulous hotel. It is very clean & well decorated. Bed was comfortable & room was quiet. It shares an underground carpark with the shopping center but there were plenty of spaces in the long term parking area. The hotel validate your ticket as many times as you want also so you don't pay for parking at all. It is a perfect location for shopping, you don't even have to go outside!
We had dinner in the hotel bistro on our first night which was quite nice. Breakfast was very good and there was an excellent selection of food. Normally I judge a hotel breakfast using the "Full Irish", but as I am try to wean myself off of piggies - I've seen how they are treated - I settled for a variety of other foods, which were all lovely.
The Hodson Bay Hotel is in a fabulous scenic location and employs staff who are professional, friendly and trained to a very high standard. It is a fabulous place to stay - highly recommend.
Room was amazing - adult only wing with waterfront view.
Room was huge, fabulous bathroom and room was so comfortable.
A nice hotel right in the town centre with ample parking. A lovely room and a good breakfast. A member of staff phoned me on the day of arrival to warn me of a function that evening in the hotel with music until late. They allocated me a bedroom away from that and I wasn't disturbed at all.
Trisha and Blair are great people laid back easygoing Irish, beautiful lake view very warm, cozy and comfortable setting is stunning close to Athlone town dead center of the country. Great Pubs, food and people. would love to stay here in the summer time. We loved everything!!
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Room and bed were very comfortable, leisure complex was so relaxing. The Viking tours boat leaves from the pier just outside the hotel and a round trip to Athlone town was €15, this trip was fantastic.
I had stayed the week before and had booked a hotel for the next Friday night, but I had enjoyed my stay so much that when I found there was availability I cancelled the hotel and went back to Shannonside House
The bar was old-fashioned and adorable. Prices were great. Staff very attentive. The rooms were cozy but more like home than a hotel. The best part was Teresa who runs the place and provides a nice breakfast.
Breakfast was ok. Dinner was delicious. Room was the best hotel room I ever stayed in. We had the Princess Grace Suite and wow! Will stay here definitely next time I am in the area. Gem of Athlone
Myself and the other half had a fantastic couple of nights hotel was lovely staff were lovely and athlone was lovely can't wait till we are back down again
Lovely hotel, staff very friendly and helpful. Great location in middle of town .athlone is a great town for shopping and plenty of choice for dining out.
