Cascais is a small city located on the outskirts of Lisbon. Once a fishing village and defence outpost, the royalty transformed it into a stylish summer resort. Mixing beautiful beaches, elegant mansions, imposing fortifications, and a wide variety of hotels, Cascais is a great option for every season.
King Luís II used the city as his summer residence from 1870 to 1908, attracting other celebrities, and changing the destiny of the tranquil village forever. Modern roads and railway lines linking to Lisbon and Sintra were built, as well as a casino and other facilities. Some of the best hotels and 5-star resorts in Cascais date back to these times.
Nowadays, the town is a cosmopolitan beach retreat along the Estoril Coast, where people from Lisbon and other Portugal cities come for a day or weekend escapade. Many foreign tourists prefer its more relaxed hotels over the sometimes hectic Lisbon atmosphere.
Don’t miss the Citadel, rebuilt during the 16th century in a typical star-shaped Renaissance style. Other attractions include the Museum of the Sea and the ‘Paula Rego House of Stories’.
Beach hotels are the gem of Cascais and you can find a wide range on Booking.com. Check your availability with enough time in advance, as the city remains a popular summer destination.

The nice restaurants along the coast that serves good seafood. My favorite is Mar do Inferno that I can recommend and the restaurant at Albatroz Hotel.
Cascais also have good connection with train if you like to visit Lisboa or Sintra.

Cascais is a beautiful area.
Cascais is a beautiful area. Easily one of the most prettiest places we have stayed in. A beautiful beach, shops, restaurants and an array of beautiful buildings. Easy to pop on the train to Lisbon which took 40 mins and worth the few euros it cost. We visited in Nov so the weather wasn't hot but we had a lovely warm breeze plus a few showers but you expect that at that time of year.

This in my favourite town in Portugal (though I've yet to visit Porto). This was our 4th visit. Don't stay in Lisbon, stay in Cascais and visit Lisbon by train. There are many inexpensive yet good restaurants. It is a beautiful place.

Best place in Portugal as my understanding.
Best place in Portugal as my understanding. If allow me to recommend, Lisbon is not so worth to stay long, perhaps 2 days enough, but Cascais is worth to stay long. One thing I must remind that Sinatra Castle is not so same nice as many instructions mentioned, furthermore, traffic management is very poor, you may cost 2 hours to take bus from train station to the palace, then you are easy refused to enter due to miss the schedule, local staff in palace very much unfriendly.
Breakfast and location was great. However, the staff is THE BEST part of the stay. They are all friendly and helpful...they go above and beyond to answer questions and and make sure that you have a great experience at the Hotel and Cascais. It was our second stay at the hotel, and upon arrival we felt welcome and at home as the staff all recognized that we had patronized the property on a previous visit.
Having a private parking garage was a nice add; the cost was 15 Euros/day, but not having to struggle with finding a parking spot for an overnight stay was worth it. The hotel also had beach towels that they loaned to me, so I did not have to get my own wet or sandy on my last night in Portugal. The beach was only a 5 minute walk away, and was delightful - busy, but late in the day, quite lovely.
The Pestana Cascais was an ideal location for us to explore this corner of Portugal. The hotel is on a quiet street, the breakfest buffet offered an expansive selection, the room was always clean and tidy and (most important) the staff (from the front desk, to the restaurant to the cleaning staff) were exceptionally polite and helpful. Bravo to the entire hotel team.
we had a sea view which was fab. my daughter and friend had city views, their rooms appeared a bit larger and had , i believe, been refurbished. the location was perfect with all the shops, bars and restaurants on our doorstop. staff were very friendly and we enjoyed the food. some other friends stayed in a 5 star hotel and didn't enjoy their stay as much as us
Lovely old, quirky Cascais house with a huge garden that has been done up as a guesthouse. Spotlessly clean and great value for money. I needed a crashpad for a night in Cascais as I was in town for a meeting and did not want to waste a ton of money on overpriced hotels. My room had an ensuite bathroom which was great.
I liked everything about this Hotel; from the staff, the breakfast, the comfy beds, great size room with a balcony over the outside pool area and ocean view, free parking. Walking distance to the heart of Cascais and across the street from the beach. My family enjoyed a wonderful time at this Hotel.
The facilities were as expected for a 5 star hotel, everything looked freshly renewed, with great taste and attention to details, everything was immaculate clean.
Cherry on top, which we can say deserving 6 stars (out of 5), the professionalism and excellency of the staff - definitely worth it.
Breakfast is amazing! Easily one of the best breakfasts I ever had in a hotel. The hotel is beautifully decorated, the staff is super nice and the private garden is my favourite. Super convenient location, 3-5 min walk to the beach (and all the restaurants and bars)
The staff were phenomenal, so kind, welcoming, and helpful. Instantly made us feel at home. The included breakfast exceeded our expectations every single day. The gardens were so lush and great to lounge in. Greatest location. Best hotel stay we’ve ever had.
Really top of line hotel In Cascais. Looks out over the Atlantic. The staff is super nice! The junior suite is spacious and comfortable. Fantastic balcony if you get a sea view room. Great bathrooms. I mean, there’s literally nothing not to like here.
Very charming unique family owned bed and breakfast in a remodeled mansion. Location very close to beaches and parks of Cascais. Breakfast was lovely with eggs, fruit, breads, and meat. Staff (family) went out of their way to meet your needs.
We had a wonderful time in The Albatroz Hotel. We were made feel very welcome. The atmosphere was excellent and the staff went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable and relaxing. We will definitely return.
the place is really amazing. It is the center of the center of Cascais. the hotel is very nice, beautiful halls, corridors, decorations. breakfast very good too, with wonderful views. room was very spacious.
Location. Views. Design. Size of the rooms and the hole property, but still very comfortable and calm. Amazing breakfast. Perfect for golf and surf. The golf course is one of the best in Portugal.
Beautiful hotel. I would call it a hidden jewel- only in Portugal and Brazil chain of hotels. One of the best breakfast options. Staff was very courteous, location was great, parking was ample.
Kind welcoming hosts.
Best bed I've slept in during my 2 week trip around Portugal. (Usually stay in similarly priced places).
An easy 7-10 minute uber/bolt to the marina/beach.
Charming boutique hotel in the historic center of Cascais. Close to all tourist sites and attractions as well as the beach. Very nice breakfast and very helpful staff.
