Patty is a very nice host. We really enjoyed our stay in Valle de Anton. the house is a bit rustic but that is already visible in the photos and part of the charm. Generally i would recommend to book the loft (upstairs) if you like bird watching. We put fruit in the feeder downstairs and hardly saw any bird. While on the upstairs balcony there were lots of birds without food :) Unfortunately the upstairs room wasnt available when we booked, but then ended up being empty the whole time while we were there. I really like that some basic cooking things were in the kitchen like coffee, oil, salt etc. there is also a big oven - a lot of vacation rentals dont have that.

Set in Valle de Anton, 46 km from Santa Clara, DondeJosé offers free bikes and free WiFi. Location was excellent, with comfortable beds and all the required amenities in good working order. Perfect for our 3 night stay. It’s a 5 min walk to a good size supermarket, 15 mins to the main ‘downtown’ Avenida with restaurants and the mercado. 3 amazing hikes to the top of the ancient caldera, and the butterfly farm is a must see. We were able to park our car inside their gate, and the home is a 15 min walk to access one of the 3 primary hikes in the area, India Dormida. Jose and his partner, Liz, are wonderful hosts, and made us feel like family. The breakfast is simple and filling, and we could use their fridge and also made a meal or two using the kitchen facilities. Jose and Liz are gracious hosts and Jose is very witty. They made our time there a truly fun and memorable experience. Communication was excellent, in English and Spanish, despite my spouse and I having very limited Spanish language skills. Local knowledge, tips, and recommendations on things to do in the area were great and super appreciated. Finally, Jose joined us on one of our hikes and he made it super fun and interesting with his knowledge of local flora and fauna. The whole property and rooms are beautiful and show the hosts good taste for furniture and decoration. Awesome private patio with hammocks and a nice view into the beautiful tropical garden. The hosts are real hosts and provide you with help and information. The breakfast was delicious. On the beach there are little huts to sit in the shadow.
