All the building and growth was somewhat disappointing.

All the building and growth was somewhat disappointing. Spent many many years of my life at the island and now feels like the simple family charm is gone!!!!! Just a different element now. Not enough restaurants for the growth there. But, would recommend .

We love Oak Island for it's beaches!

We love Oak Island for it's beaches! Wide, clean and uncrowded! We had a great meal at Joseph's Italian Bistro which is located just off island in Southport. If you're a seafood lover and want to eat at home instead of dining out, try Pelican Seafood for fresh selections daily. You can either buy it to raw to prepare yourself or they will cook it for you.

The indoor pool was not working.

The indoor pool was not working. We have a special needs child and that is all she wanted they did not tell us when we checked in that it was not working. This should have been addressed when we checked in.

    Odd service hours for restaurants.

Odd service hours for restaurants. For instance, recording at Shagger Jack's had hours and days open, but when we arrived from different cities, to meet there for lunch, it was not open at all! We ended up eating outside on the beach, which was noisy and windy, and not what we planned, but good food (something "Turtle", sorry) getting around easy, but much traffic. we would have come more off-season, if possible, but it was a birthday celebration

I loved the short walk to the beach and pier from our room.

I loved the short walk to the beach and pier from our room. I'm a sea sheller and was disappointed that there were no shells. My dog loved jumping in the ocean and playing in the waves. Very dog friendly. One treasure we did find was a place called Hoarders, so many great finds there and loved the antiques. A must place to check out. And the ice cream shop next door to Hoarders is a must visit too, great ice cream and a good price.
