At the meeting point of Switzerland, Germany and France, Basel is an eclectic mix of historic and modern, tranquil and vibrant. With Swiss cleanliness and efficiency thrown in for good measure.
Augusta Raurica on its outskirts houses a well-preserved Roman theatre, while the Old Town is a museum of medieval buildings. The Renaissance Town Hall looks down on Marktplatz’s daily market, while the red sandstone and colourful tiles of the Münster were reconstructed in the 19th century. Bringing it right up to date are the modern creations of city residents Herzog & De Meuron, designers of London’s Tate Modern.
When you’ve finished exploring this architectural heritage, there are still plenty of things to do in Basel. The city’s fine art museum is the world’s oldest art collection, and the zoo is the oldest and largest in Switzerland. Remember to bring plenty of Swiss francs for the shopping mile along Clarastrasse and Freiestrasse.
The Basel accommodation on Booking.com ranges from hotels in Grossbasel to B&Bs in Kleinbasel, home to the nightlife. If you’re flying into Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg Airport in February or March you might just catch Fasnacht: Switzerland’s biggest carnival. You’ll have to get up early to see it start though - 4am!
Basel is magical, I really enjoyed visiting it. The old town is so so nice. It's also very well connected to other places like Reigoldswil for the waterfall or to Augusta Raurica which I recommend.

Lovely city, but very expensive!
Lovely city, but very expensive! Mind you that most kitchens close at 21h and don't accept customers well in advance, as well as lots of places are closed on Sundays and Mondays. Go for all the beauty of the city, but bring the big wallet and plan to eat out early if you don't rent a place with a kichen and cook yourself. Don't bother to stay on a Monday, and consider to leave early on a Sunday, those two days are very, very quiet in Basel!

Very nice city, everything is very tidy.
Very nice city, everything is very tidy. The public transportation is very good. A lot of tramways and every several minutes coming the next one. We used tramway 8 to go to Germany and tramwat 3 to go to France. I recomend to visist the Stadtcasino and also to take the train and to go to Augusta Raurica about 20 km from Basel. It was a nice site with roman remains and also a nice rural walking outside the city. There are trains every 30 minutes.

Very vibrant as far as the museums are concerned.
Very vibrant as far as the museums are concerned. City for art lovers. Also very easy to move within the city with any kind of public transportation. Transportation was free, and the museums are for half the regular price with the card given by the hotel.

Basel is a very touristy and romantic city.
Basel is a very touristy and romantic city. It is very easy to explore and walk around. Quite expensive, I would recommend to visit museums on the first Sunday of every month(free) and also find an accommodation which provides Basel card in case you would like to tour the city by bus or tram.

A beautiful city. I arrived Saturday evening.
A beautiful city. I arrived Saturday evening. The train station was a little busy and the shops were too but it was to be expected. I explored the city on Sunday, it was very quiet as the locals don't tend to work on Sundays. I managed to see every attraction and walk around the whole city and down to St Jacobs in around 5 hours. It is beautiful, clean, and everyone was friendly. If you learn a little German, they really appreciate it! Just remember to respect the environment and enjoy your time there and it is fine. The railway services there are unbelievable too. Direct trains to Zurich within an hour without delays would be unheard of in the UK. Very impressed!
It was a safe nice and environment for my wife and her friend. This was their first time in Basel and they couldn't believe the location. It was near everything and they loved being in the middle of the Christmas market . The rooms where extremely quiet considering the location and they were clean. She mentioned the receptionist who also spoke Spanish was a very friendly and helpful person. As they continue to travel through Switzerland they decided to come back one more time as it was a very positive experience.
the breakfast wasn't included since this is an apartment and not a hotel, but the location was near the coop and other areas, even the indian restuaurants like bay leaf was just few steps away, the public park was near by, i went there for a walk for 2 hours during my stay. I intend to book my stay again at this place when i plan to visit switzerland again,
the host was very helpful, he provided me with tools that i needed, he provided me with two fans because there was no AC, i faced no issues at all,
Very close to the 14 tram, which was helpful for getting to the old town, train station and zoo. The shower was really nice, even if the bathroom gets wet when you use it. We were on the 11th floor and the big windows with the view of the city made the room feel bigger. With a baby cot in the room it was very difficult to get around, the rooms are quite small, but adequate. Overall, a decent place which would be overpriced if it hadn’t been in Switzerland.
The hotel is located in the middle of the historic old town. The rooms were large and very comfortable and comfortable. The staff was exceptional, especially the young lady at the front desk in the morning and when we checked in. I had asked for an early check in and our room was ready when we arrived shortly before noon, We highly recommend this hotel and will stay there again next time we are in Basel.
The location is on the bus route between the train stations so getting around was simple. Our room was exactly as described, it was very comfortable, clean, and quiet, even though it was street-facing. Switzerland is expensive, so having a hearty breakfast really set us up for the day. Breakfast was self-service, there was a good range of hot and cold items, and everything was replenished regularly.
the room was clean and cozy, I like the presentation of my room and how the electronical curtain was operated. Breakfast was amazingly tasted. The wifi was good and stable, and worth mentioning was, because the location of Basel is almost at the border of France and Switzerland, so I was contantly experiencing the problem with my cellphone internet, but luckily the hotel wifi solved my problem.
Kai was really helpful and spoke excellent English, and it was easy to communicate with him about my arrival time etc. Everything was very clean and the room had all I needed and was bigger than I expected. Seemed good value for Switzerland! Easy to walk into town and also very close to a tram stop for getting to the train station etc.
It is a good hotel clean comfortable and easy to reach the tram stop train station and the centre of Basel. I recommend it because you can travel all Switzerland and the hotel gave us a ticket for all the days we been there for Basel. The Swiss pass is a good choice to travel all Switzerland. Thanks for having us there!
Loved the convenience to Old Basel through the Spalentor Gate. Bus and Tram stops right outside hotel made trips around Basel and into France and other parts of Switzerland a breeze. Easy transfer to airport, Basel Card for free bus, tram. Reception always ready to make sure you get the right transportation.
Check in no issues friendly girls on the desk . Once orientated to city easy to move around , do check there is more than one Ibis hotel make sure you know which is your booking or like me you will be tramping in the snow ! booking gave limited free use of tram system for the day which helped
The staff were very helpful. The hotel was in a good location for walking around the old town. We traveled for the Military Tattoo and it was a good location to walk to the castle. The only downfall was the parking, it was very expensive and no discount for staying in the hotel.
This hotel was ideally located in the old center of Basil. Everything is accessible walking or by public transport. The rooms and facilities were clean, modern and comfortable. I will definitely stay here again when in Basel!
Friendly staff, cleanliness. Breakfast room. The only hotel in Switzerland that fulfilled my pre-arrival request for a firm pillow which was impressive.
