FAQs about hotels in Bergen

Picture-Postcard Norway

Gateway to the western fjords, Bergen is a picture-perfect postcard of Norway at its best. Colourful, wooden houses in UNESCO World Heritage-listed Bryggen contrast wonderfully with the lush greenery of the surrounding Seven Mountains.

For fantastic views of Norway’s 2nd largest city, hop on the cable car to Ulriken Mountain. Alternatively, hike or take the funicular railway up to Fløyen Mountain. With beaches sheltered from the North Sea by islands, Bergen is Norway’s busiest port and a popular starting point for fjord cruises and deep sea fishing.

The fish market in the narrow streets of the historic centre is a popular attraction, while just north is 12th-century St Mary’s Church. Around 100 years younger is Bergenhus, one of Norway’s best-preserved forts. Further north is Gamle Bergen, a reconstructed wooden village offering insight into the past.

Cobbled Strandgaten street and Lagunen Storsenter shopping centre are just some shopping options, but items aren’t cheap. As you wander around the city look for work by Dolk, Norway’s best-known street artist. Other cultural offerings are the many museums and a good music scene ranging from classic to indie.

Booking.com’s range of Bergen accommodation extends out towards Bergen Airport in Flesland, the departure point for many workers on the offshore oil and gas rigs.

Visited Bergen to watch the concerts by Aurora, my favourite artist. What a gorgeous place, one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. People were friendly and the experience unbelievable. I was so sad to leave! Can’t wait to go back, the sooner the better. Thanks to both the people and town of Bergen - and Aurora of course, for incredible shows! - for some of the best few days I’ve ever had.

In February cold and very wet but awesome views and buildings to see. The ride up the mountain is a must on a clear day of course. The Old Bergen Musuem is a short bus ride and well worth a walk around. Also the city is also well worth a good look around if dry. All in all we found Bergen well worth the visit and after easter much more things will open up we found out

Wonderful trip to Greigs museum in Hop an lite rail trip out of city then a walk, aquarium a great display, funicular rail lovely even on a windy cold day not much food wise tho so take something with you, wander off the main streets as so much more to see outside of tourist shops. St Mary’s church beautiful and the organist was a real treat, Cruises a bit too busy for our liking rather crowded even in the slow season. Fish market an interesting place to see too.

We have selected a low-season period (end of february) and probably the month with higher rain probability in Bergen. And we got it every day! But just taking the funicular, we were able to convert rain into snow which is far more pleasant! We liked to walk into the town, see its museums, we ate in several places and found some also reasonably priced (an indian restaurant, a zupperia, etc...). We made two one-day excursions that were highly worth doing. And on Sunday we found a Catholic Church where we could partecipate to a very curated Sunday Mass celebration. The tourism office has been full of useful suggestions.

We arrived late winter, it was cold and rained quite often but it was great. We dressed appropriately, with layers and purchased umbrellas too. The weather provides a nice atmosphere and for us that haven't seen snow too often it was great seeing it on surrounding hilltops and passing through it whilst out on tours. The museums providing the history of the area and the architecture is mind blowing. Need a lot more than a week to take it all in. Perhaps a revisit in different seasons is a must.

Bergen is a beautiful city, with beautiful people. Everywhere is very clean. The food is amazing, and the views are astounding! 3-4 days is perfect for a visit, especially if you want to do some excursions like a cruise around the fjords or go up some of the mountains.

This hotel was very convenient to all the sites we planned to visit. We walked from the rail station off Norway in a Nutshell. We easily walked to the Fishmarket, the funicular, the Bryggen, RosenKrantz Tower, etc. The plaza was a pleasant place to relax. We caught the Lightrail easily to the airport. On top of it all, the barceptionist was exceptional. He easily pointed us in the right direction and looked up things if we had a question he wasn’t sure about. Lastly, the breakfast was also such a lovely addition.

Amazing place, close to Bergen airport, very rustic design with unique touch of the owners’ relics and ideas, quite unusual feeling of being accommodated next door to a herd of sheep (no smell in the room, though), beautiful newly rebuilt shower facilities including a sauna, very friendly and helpful owner who greeted us and showed us around even though we arrived late. the only problem was we had to go on the morning after to make it for the rest of our Norway trip :) thank you!

Top location just opposite the fish market in the city center. The photos of the rooms and facilities are authentic. Very cool design, but still practical and good quality. Bathrobes and slippers in the room (first time in Norway to find this). Got an upgrade for additional NOK 200 so the room cost NOK 3'000+ for 2 nights in mid September, which is great value for money. All in all a lovely experience and definitely one of the nicest hotels in the whole of Norway.

Our choice of this hotel proved to be a wise one. The hotel locates in the center of the city and it is within walking distance to all attractions and destinations. It is the only hotel during our stay in Norway that offers kettle in the room. Furthermore, the 24-hour availability of hot + cold water and coffee at the reception area added a delightful touch of convenience to our stay.

Great price for Bergen with great views towards the city. Our room was quite small but it was comfortable enough. There is a direct bust to the city that runs every 10-20 min approx. It takes around 20 min and it cost about 40 nok. There is kitchen in the hostel so you can cook your own food. There is also a restaurant but it is slow and expensive (it´s Norway you know...).

We normally use hotels when we travel with work, but this time I chose "Bergen Camping Park" because it was closer to the lcoation where I worked. As an added bonus it was half price from hotels, and I was also surprised to find that the comfort exceeded most hotels. Had my own little cabin with kitchen facilities, bathroom with shower and a separate bedroom. 10/10

We booked the hotel in last minute. It turned out it was our best one during our stay in Norway. The location was right on the spot of Bergen center. The staff, especially Christina, was very nice and friendly to offer useful info. The pub on the first floor opens to guests for free coffee or tea. The free breakfast was excellent. I would strongly recommend it.

Lovely big room (junior suite) with huge bathroom and comfortable beds. The staff were very friendly. Breakfast was okay, but not a huge amount of choice for vegetarians. We liked the old building which made a nice change after staying in a number of ultra modern hotels during a long trip in Norway.
