The Stay v The Restaurant
The Stay
Very chic rooms that are fairly spacious. The price is definitely good for what you get in France. The staff at reception were very friendly and helpful. The only thing I would improve is to have a bottle of water in the room (which is quite normal for hotels) and to provide some tourist information for visitors near the reception. But otherwise it was great.
The restaurant
Now this really made me want to go lower. The Mama Shelter restaurant is definitely very excited to give you an authentic French experience filled with rudeness , unprofessional & discriminatory behaviour. When you come to France, you already prepare for this much renowned behavior / hospitality but you don’t expect it from the hotel you’re staying in. You wait 20+ minutes while they serve all other French people. When you try to call the waiter over , they pretend like they don’t see you. So I had no choice but to walk over to reception to get the lady at the front desk to help me and she was very very lovely. However, the whole experience was very very uncomfortable - why do I need to ask the receptionist to get me help to be served in the first place? The staff then tried to be ‘ nice ‘ after possibly already realising that he’s been complained about but it was a gimmick and an act. He tried to offer me a free drink for the ‘ inconvenience ‘ but then proceeded to charge me for it anyway. Very sly ! Eventually I did tell the receptionist (again who’s lovely) and she said she’ll sort that out (hopefully). Maybe the restaurant should have a sign that says ‘ French Only’ .
The Arancini was horrible (the worse I’ve ever had) - but the mussels linguini was tasty except for the fact it HAD NO MUSSELS. 😂 Mussels linguini with no mussels 😂
The only saving grace at the hotel was the receptionist who tried her best and I feel sorry that she’s working in this establishment.

A few miles from the Belgian border, Lille displays Flemish influence in both architecture and cuisine. Its most famous square - Grand Place - is home to the beautiful Vielle Borse building, the Lille Christmas markets and several restaurants serving moules-frites and local beer.
Behind that is the Palais Rihour, a rather odd-looking building surrounded by cafes. In the opposite direction is another square with the opera house at the centre and triangular-shaped buildings fanning off in 3 directions. One of these cobbled streets leads to the Old Town, where boutiques and international brands are in beautifully crafted shops.
Shopping in Lille is actually epic. It has Europe’s largest bookstore (the 8-floor Furet du Nord) and largest flea market - the Braderie de Lille. Then there is the bustling Wazemmes market and the huge Euralille shopping centre. The town also has some fantastic chocolate shops.
Other attractions include the Musée des Beaux-Arts and the Citadelle – a 17th-century fortress surrounded by a free zoo and gardens.
Lesquin Airport is on the city’s outskirts, but most visitors arrive at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, named after Lille’s most famous son. If travelling to Lille by Eurostar, check out the mural of famous European landmarks before heading to your Booking.com hotel, B&B or apartment.
This was our fourth trip to Lille. We fell in love so much with this city that we hope to one day call it home. A city filled with adventure, kind people and so many beautiful places to explore. If we could move today, we would! Take time to explore this gem of a city, for it has become one of our favorite places in the entire world to visit.

I enjoyed Lille.
I enjoyed Lille. But, as is often the case in France , a lot of restaurants /bars and places of interest were closed on Mondays. So I really wish I had gone home on Sunday. I felt two days was ample to see what Lille has to offer.

Honestly one of the best hotels I have been in my life 👍🏾
The room was great value, as we managed to get it last minute during a stay for a RWC match.
The hotel is very well situated in the centre of Lille, convenient for everything we need. No parking, but we were advised by the Hotel of a parking very close that we were able to book in advance, which was ver convenient.
The staff at the Hotel were very friendly and helpful!
Engaged, polite, friendly, and efficient staff were very helpful with any needs. The location is good, although neither on Grande Place nor in a trendy part of town. All rooms open onto various garden courtyards so it is very quiet. The city of Lille is very pretty and very vibrant, and this hotel was convenient for exploration of the city and region.
The room was great with really good facilities. The cocktail bar was perfect, well worth a visit and was also where you have breakfast. The location is right in the centre of Lille so perfect for sightseeing and shopping. To park we used a secure car park in the main square which was relatively easy to find and only a few minutes walk from the hotel.
Property is stylish, clean, has the most wonderful sized and comfort bed! Travel with 7year old and her additional bed was as big as main!
Staff are extremely polite and professional! Breakfast is amazing! Have stayed in hotel 3 times in transit through France and would never stay elsewhere!
Old town is not far and offers amazing food and wine!
The staff, including the cleaners, were friendly. They kindly answered about our requests. The hotel is located next to Lille Flandres station, yet close to the city centre, so the location is excellent for train travelers. The building is old, but the room was nicely maintained. No surprises when you expect a no-nonsense hotel for one night.
The hotel is right beside the Eurostar terminal and also walking distance to Lille city centre. The rooms are small but well equipped with a kettle and tv, small wardrobe and mirrors in both the bedroom and bathroom. The reception staff were friendly and helpful, too. It’s good value for money and the mini bar was super cheap too!
Everything! Helpful staff, spacious room with everything we needed. And a great breakfast included in price. The dining area was lovely and comfortable with nice furnishings… Great location for exploring the town and close to Lille Europe train station. A lovely way to spend our last night in France.😊
Spacious room, no problem for 3 people, everything clean, great location, close to the city centre. Comfy bed, convenient bathroom. Temperature easily adjustable.
Very nice people at the reception too.
Quite a positive surprise for the Budget Hotel! A small gem in Lille, totally recommend!
Great location in the centre of Lille. Apartment was spacious and clean. Easy to access the city. Good facilities in the apartment and lovely open windows to the streets below to enjoy the atmosphere. There are a couple of bars across the street.
The location was excellent. Near to metro station as well as train station. The hotel was located Westfield Euralille building, so was easy to find a place for dining and shopping nearby. Mini refrigerator was very useful. Staffs were friendly.
Proximity to Lille Europe and the fact that it was a small hotel and not a huge corporate high rise. Very close to the Centre Ville - Lille is a very pleasant town, with some lovely historical buildings. Nice firm mattress.
Very nice hotel located in the center of Lille, very comfortable bed and clean room! The breakfast was great, it had everything you'd expect at a hotel breakfast buffet. All the staff were also very sweet!
The hotel was chosen because of the proximity to the railway stations as we were using Lille as a base to visit WW1 museums at the Somme and Belgium. The hotel was perfect for what we needed.
Great hotel with secluded terrass only 2 metro stops away from city centre. Nice lounge corner on the terrass. Beds were comfortable and shower great. Fantastic breakfast!!
Modern, clean hotel within easy walking distance to the centre of Lille. Appreciated the secure parking which meant we did not have to park the car in the centre of Lille.
