Near the Slovenian border, Trieste combines the waterside setting of Venice with the elegance of Vienna. The Habsburgs ruled here for over 500 years and built Miramare Castle on a rocky outcrop to the north-west. Their other influences include stately Piazza Unità d’Italia, looking out to sea and spectacularly lit at night.
But this is just a glimpse into Trieste's long and fascinating history. The 1st-century Riccardo Arch hides in a narrow street, and part-way up the hills behind the city centre are Roman theatre remains, while columns from the Roman forum stand next to San Giusto castle and cathedral.
The most photographed church is Sant’Antonio Nuovo, overlooking a boat-lined canal. The nearby Stock Exchange has a colonnaded façade and its square houses some of the city’s shops. The most popular cultural attraction is the Revoltella Museum of modern art, while more sobering is Risiera di San Sabba, a former concentration camp near the Palatrieste and Nereo Rocco sports stadiums.
Watersports include windsurfing and kitesurfing from the port which is an important coffee importer. Unsurprisingly, the city’s Viennese-style coffee houses serve top-quality brews, and the best is reportedly Caffè San Marco, once frequented by famous authors.
Booking.com’s Trieste accommodation includes hotels with pools, cheap apartments by the station and B&Bs near Ronchi dei Legionari Airport.

Trieste is a kind and adorable town...not entirely Italian nor Austrian...people are very polite. Everything is close by - the sea, the small mountains (beautiful views from the castle on top of the hill).

A beautiful coastal city, with fantastic facades and beautiful promenades and squares. Close to good beaches and places worth visiting. An excellent starting point for visiting Venice, Istria, Slovenia... Excellent food in restaurants, which are very affordable (20-50 EUR per person). House wines cost 7 EUR for half a liter, and they are excellent. Extremely well stocked stores.

We cruised out of Trieste so we were only there for one evening. Our room location was very close to a street with many cafes, restaurants and bars with both inside and outside seating. We walked around all evening exploring the area. It was safe, and the locals were very friendly.

Most visitors of Trieste are there for the cruise.
Most visitors of Trieste are there for the cruise. There is really not much to do in Trieste and I found most locals to be absolutely rude, from bus drivers to local shops. Next time, I would just stay in Venice, Milan or any where else. Trieste is a waste of time and not worth visiting.
Welcome at Reception was excellent. Thoroughly professional, friendly and helpful. The Hotel itself is a truly magnificent building. The room we had was very comfortable and clean and the bed was really comfy. Great shower and everything there you need. Situated right near the centre and shops but quiet. A taxi from Triest Central was 7 Euros, would recommend as it's a bit of a walk with cases. Our second stay this year and we wouldn't stay anywhere else. Double Tree Hilton and Triest are fantastic!
There were fantastic dinners in hotel restaurant. They were very good end of the day, we recommend. Salad was always fresh. First course and main course were very tasty (me and my wife mention first dinner with excellent vegetable soup and excellent gulas and chicken).
Location of hotel is very good (highway is just few minutes from hotel), no city noise.
Parking for free with enough space.
Staff was very friendly, very helpful, we felt like at home.
The host was more than forthcoming and hospitable. During our stay, he messaged us to make sure everything is ok and that we are satisfied with the stay. The location is ideal for trips by train and there are good and reliable lockers to leave luggage really close by. The apartment is spacious and modern and equipped with everything we needed to make the stay great. This is amazing value for money and really convenient for exploring Italy by train.
Hotel Milano is located at great location in the center of Trieste, within easy walking distance to the train & bus stations and the most interesting parts of the city itself. The room was simple, but spacious and clean with good bathroom and allowed me for a good night rest. So, if someone is looking where to stay with a need to travel the day after by train or bus, look no further because here is the best value that I definitely recommend.
Excellent little hotel, feels very genuine - like all of Trieste in fact, the rooms are beautiful and spacious in a renovated old building, bed is comfortable. Breakfast was excellent, everything was exquisite. Staff are very kind and ready to help but very discreet at the same time. Provided suggestions for good places to eat which lived up to the expectations. A charming place in a very central location, highly recommended.
First of all, he is the best host ever!! We saved money because he helped us with parking, where to eat, how to go on excursions! The best location in Trieste, right in the center and in a quiet street, real Italy! The apartment has everything you need, clean and comfortable.
The next time I visit Trieste, I will go straight to this apartment! Everything was wonderful and beyond expectations!
Perfect location, charming, clean, comfortable, nice staff. Definitely recommend this place and if we go back to Triest will stay there again! We’re lucky and parked our car on the street in front of the hotel (no payment was needed), but anyway if there is no free space, the public parking is very close to the place and the price is ok 10€/24h (it’s just about 4-5 min walking distance).
Loved the character, space and facilities of the studio. I’d been seeking and older style building and the studio was perfect. Located right next to COIN and the general shopping area and attached to the Hotel Continentale in the middle of Trieste it was just perfect. The hotel itself was gorgeous and the breakfasts just right with great service and good tasting food.
We purchased the breakfast at the hotel each day. It was worth the price compared to upside eating spots. Recommend booking a room with breakfast included. Size of room was good, AC worked, Layout of room was different (it was in the top of the hotel). Location was great. We walked with suite cases s from train station to hotel Walked everywhere we went in Trieste.
Friendly staff, fluent in English. Location is great for exploring central Trieste on foot. The hotel bar was nice too for having a relaxing drink before going out. Lots of very good restaurants within 300m radius. Concierge parking is a very nice touch too. Hotel has that unmistakable classic Austro-Hungarian feel, yet is perfectly fit for the 21st century
As we specifically were in Trieste to attend an event at Teatro Rossetti, the location was excellent; about a block away. The apartment is spacious, nicely decorated, and very clean. Lovely modern kitchen with stove, microwave, and dishwasher. The split air conditioner worked very well, which was a blessing.
The Da Gillo apt was even better in person - more spacious and fully equipped with everything one could need. The apartment was quiet, private, comfortable, immaculate, and Marco welcomed us with great recommendations for where to go and what to see in Trieste. Overall highly recommended!
Our room was very spacious, elegant, comfortable, well equipped and clean. Even though we don't speak Italian the host was very accommodating and took the time to explain to us how everything worked in the room. The location is central and great for exploring Trieste.
What a cool a place. A joy of a revamped boutique hotel. Immaculately designed, really comfortable, sweet glass shower, espresso machine in the room... an experience, and affordable, very likely the best place in Trieste in that regard.
A very friendly staff, good breakfast and a very well located parking in front of the hotel.
We got a wonderfull big room with the fireplace.
If you are comming in Trieste with a car, its a good choise.
wonderful boutique hotel sympathetically decorated to highlight the features and the location is superb. Bedroom had a lovely view of the waterfront and the town square. friendly staff.
Very helpful at reception, glass of wine on arrival, coffee on leaving, good recommendations on where to eat.
General decor is appropriate for the boutique hotel listing
this is a fine little boutique hotel, off the beaten track in Trieste. great room, friendly front desk staff. I’ll happily use this hotel again the next time I visit.
