Great property, great view. Caroline was lovely and very helpful. My fiancé and I stayed here with our 2 dogs and there were dog bowls left out with some treats too which was very nice. Would highly recommend staying at An Cuilidh!

Rothesay had its heyday as a Victorian seaside holiday setting with a castle, and although some parts are rather faded glory, the rest makes up for it. We loved the situation next to the sea, with the paddle steamer and ferries coming and going. We loved Bute Yard bar and Glenburn Hotel's terrace with stunning views and great food. It's easy to get to other parts of the island by car or bike. Worth making the trip to Mount Stuart with its stunning interiors and gardens. Next time I'd stay longer and explore more on foot.

Rothesay is a beautifal town located on the Isle of Bute.
Rothesay is a beautifal town located on the Isle of Bute. There is plenty to do over a few days. We rented e-bikes and checked out the whole island, from Kilchatten Bay to Ettrick Bay and the town of Rothesay itself. The castle is worth a visit, and if you're lucky you can spot HMS Hoods Anchor just north of the town. Food options are somewhat scarce on the island, pub grub and takeaways are the only things available (there is Bute Yard which hosts pop up kitchens - wholly recommend this place, but I think they operate seasonally).Ben - 10Scored 10

Rothesay is simply somewhere to chill for few days, yes it's quiet, but if you're of a certain age, this is perfect. Plenty nice pubs/restaurants to try. Isle of Bute has so many hidden treasures. I recommend the Tour bus, nice walks to Lighthouse, Ardbeg, where there is an amazing American diner, Kerrycroy and Ascog are lovely villages to visit too. Lovely old hotel in a great location overlooking the bay. Very nice, spacious, clean rooms with tea and coffee facilities. Had nice meal in hotel each night with good choice of dishes. Staff were very nice and helpful. Great base for tour of the island.

Truly excellent place to visit especially for history buffs, with midget submarines in WW2, to Scotlands first flight by a blacksmith no less, to all the hidden gems of coastline, views. Mount Steuart would take several days to fully explore but a stunning georgian house. With some wonderful cafe's throughout the island, some even more amazing hostelries to dine at It's a place that you will want to return to time and time again.AAnonymousUnited Kingdom

Appliances seemed like brand new and were very easy to work! Bathroom and kitchen were exceptional and finished to a very high standard. I left my hat in the apartment and contacted owner to ask if it had been found and it was sent to me a couple of days later. Such a kind thing to do and I was so grateful. Exceptional service and accommodation!

Lovingly and amazingly themed in 1960s USA, it is full of fun and interesting memorabilia. But the hotel is great for so much more - thoughtfully appointed rooms and a very comfortable bed, a diner with genuinely tasty burgers, kindly and friendly staff. Great value for money. See if you can get a room at the front.

The shower was excellent in a bathroom with a variety of marble, the size of your room. In between was a kind of pantry for coffee and tea, with a microwave. Staff was very friendly and willing to help you out for finding a place to have dinner. Parking on top of the hill next to the house is very useful.RVVWNetherlands

The grounds are spacious and Carolynn and John encourage you to play on the front lawn with the various garden games they provide in the shed next to the house. The hotel is beautifully situated on the waterfront with only a 5-minute walk into Rothesay along a nice palm-tree-lined promenade - what is there not to like about that?

Our room was on the 2nd floor; do note that the hotel does not have a lift, which wasn't a problem for us but might be worth considering for those with mobility issues.
