I loved the swimming pool. Also the staff especially Daiga she was so lovely, really helped us out as we needed a pound for the pool locker and she did not hesitate to go and get a pound and all she cared about was for us to enjoy our stay and have fun. Even when we offered to give her something in return she said no she just wants us to enjoy.

Colchester is a brilliant town to visit, you have the old and new part to walk round ranging from a good collection of shops and food outlets to browse and walking round the various churches, castle, monastery ruins and lovely parks.
The town is within walking distance of both train stations, taxis are plenty also. Take a good pair of comfy walking attire for feet as you will be walking up and down gradients!! A great place to visit on the local bus is Manningtree where there is a antiques emporium to walk round with a great cafe in the high street for food.
If visiting Colchester for the first time I recommend staying at least a minimum of 4 days as their is a lot to see of interest. Lots of charity shops too!!
For families do visit Colchester Zoo which is a great day out, this can be reached by bus also if you do not drive.

Colchester is a gem.
Colchester is a gem. Lovely architecture and sights, good cafes and pubs, shopping and eateries. It's not at all dog friendly, though, which is a big drawback if you ask me. Come on, Colchester, Britain loves its pets!
As you can see from the photos on their website, the actual hotel is an amazing building right in the middle of Colchester.
The common areas (reception, lounges, dining room) are lovely, really oldy-worldy, with beams and nooky rooms with a large wooden staircase.
The staff did an excellent job making us feel welcome and tried really hard to do the best they could. There definitely weren't enough staff as the lady on reception was also helping behind the bar serving drinks and later became our waitress (as we stayed for dinner).
The location was really useful for using the station to get into Colchester town during the day and a couple of stops along in the evening to Hythe for visiting friends. Saved a fortune on taxis and meant no driving after a long journey. Really comfy bed and excellent power shower. Useful amenities in the room fridge and microwave and good selection of drinks inc hot choc in addition to the usual tea/coffee. Bottles of water and cartons of juice too.
The staff was very helpful and responsive to any questions or issues I had about the room or the surrounding area. The room was pretty clean and comfortable with a pretty great WIFI connection. The hotel is also located in a great part of town, right within walking distance of everything important. It also has a taxi waiting area right outside if you need one in a pinch.
A beautiful, comfortable and quiet hotel in a fantastic location. Tried the food this time and it was incredible. Reasonably priced for Room Service.
The Junior Suites are incredible with a huge bathroom covered in marble down a small flight of stairs.
I have already booked again for future. This is now my go-to hotel for Colchester.
summer let for student accommodation. peaceful campus life, clean airy rooms. on site reception. pleasant walks, eg to wivenhoe or along the river into town. regular busses into town. colchester was more interesting than i realised. castle, churches, roman walls, parks and many interesting little streets with quirky shops and cafes.
Excellent value. Stayed one night in a standard double. Location spot on, short drive to Colchester and it's environs, plenty of parking at the hotel, pleasant ambience inside and out. Very helpful staff on reception and in the restaurant, where we had some very nice food from the starter menu when we arrived.
Breakfast was exceptional with so much choice and all freely accessible. Room was very quiet but that was probably due to the thick carpet which was also in the corridors and made for a very quiet night. Bed was comfy and the room itself out excelled a comparitive hotel on the western side of Colchester.
Great location to explore Colchester. The room seemed a bit small but was well equipped. The staff were friendly. Continental breakfast was great, lots of choice. Available parking which was a bonus for a central location. We were able to check in early at no extra cost and park the car at the hotel.
Friendly personnel. The hotel has a very good restaurant (also used for breakfast). Beds were good; clean room. Parking on public road is possible in front of the hotel if there is space (free of charge from 6pm-8am). Location is good to explore Colchester.
The property was an excellent choise for us. Being Central to Colchester and not to far away from the Univercity where we spend the day at our daughters graduation. The host was excellent and was very responsive to any questions we had.
Spacious room with great lighting and view of the high St. Excellent location with shops and restaurants at your door step. Colchester Castle literally 2mins walk. Good breakfast options and dinning area (at George Hotel)
