Hugging the Ligurian coastline, Genoa boasts Europe’s largest old town and Italy’s largest seaport. As birthplace of Christopher Columbus, its heart and soul is the port, site of the Naval Museum and the ship-shaped Aquarium.
By the old port (Porto Antico) are several bars and restaurants serving the local speciality – pesto. Other Genoese favourites are focaccia and fresh fish from its Mediterranean shores. Don’t miss the homemade gelato ice cream along the seafront promenade – Corso Italia. East of here is the tranquil Boccadasse neighbourhood, where colourful boats bob up and down.
The best city views are from Villetta di Negro, a raised, shady park with a waterfall. Below is UNESCO World Heritage-listed Via Garibaldi, home to the ornately decorated Palazzo dei Rolli.
South is the old town with its black-and-white cathedral and Piazza de Ferrari, featuring a large fountain and historic buildings including the Doge’s Palace. The surrounding area is a maze of narrow, cobbled streets flying the Genoa flag, supposedly where the English took theirs from. Each features bars, restaurants and unique shops, while fancy boutiques are on Via XX Settembre.
As you approach Genova Airport look out for the fortresses on the lush hills forming the backbone of the ‘Superb City’. Booking.com has a range of Genoa accommodation, from hotels to apartments and B&Bs.
Genoa was a nice looking city. Unfortunately the two+ hours we wasted trying the find the property greatly reduced the amount if time we had to see some sights we wanted to see. We also tried to go to the aquarium but by the time we got there they were sold out for the day. Having only a half day greatly limited the sights we could see. We did go to Laterna and enjoyed the tour and the history of the lighthouse, the second oldest operating lighthouse in the world.

Genova is a beautiful old city with many gorgeous palazzos, churches and interesting streets. The harbour has many ships, historical landmarks and an aquarium. There are restaurants to suit every diner and pocket, from endless street cafes selling pizza and pastries to superb fine dining restaurants offering wonderful seasonal specialties. Great shopping too.

A beautiful ancient city.
A beautiful ancient city.
We visit the Aquarium and the lighthouse and walked in the city.
The architecture is interesting and nice building and decorations could be find at any corner.
It is a very good place to stop for a day or two while traveling in north Italy.
Better to arrive when the weather is good and the view is clear.

Beautiful city.
Beautiful city. So many twists and turns through small alleyways. Felt magical. Great food scene. Felt like a local. Great small city vibe.
Il genovese was our best dinner— very reasonable for a nice dinner. T/terra was a great cheap dinner find! Enjoyably food and 7 dollar pastas!
We took a day trip to cinque Terre which was very easy by train. Unfortunately the hiking paths were closed for actual race.
In town, we enjoyed the old city sites and the aquarium.
Getting around was easy— download the transportation app and you can buy tickets on your phone! Machine tickets were often broken.
I liked the large, bright and clean room. The private bath and shower were exceptional. A large, double-paned window provided a view to a beautiful woods across the street. The shared kitchen area was cleaned by staff every day. There is access to the roof with a washing machine, although the cost to wash is very high but inline with generally high laundry prices throughout Italy. Plenty of shops, restaurants, chemists and grocers in the area. Really accurate check-in information and fast responses to any concerns or questions.
This was the first place we stayed in Italy, and even after staying at six other places, this was by far our favorite! Marina and her crew were wonderful, the breakfast was outstanding, the beds and pillows were extremely comfortable, the room was spacious and convenient. It worked very well for our family of two adults and two kids. Check-in was easy. The complimentary coffee, water and juice for the kids in our rooms was a much appreciated gesture. I would definitely stay there again and highly recommend.
Was traveling around italy and france with my 50yo mom. This was her very first ever experience staying in a hostel atmosphere. She loved it. The kitchen, the breakfast, the terrace, the laundry facilities and the band that happened to play on one of the nights. We had a private room. And mom said it was the biggest ‘hotel’ room she’s ever been in. Also the bed was the widest for me as well. Loved our experience and will definitely recommend to anyone heading that way.
The hotel is very well positioned right next to the main train station which makes it a very good base to start exploring the zone. And here I mean Cinque Terre as well as Portofino, Santa Margherita Ligure, Camogli. It is also within walking range to the Acquarium and touristic port. The breakfast has multiple choices and the best caffee I ever had in a hotel in Italy at breakfast. The air conditioning worked like a charm and it was very efficient.
Comparing to all previous hostel I've seen in Italy this is a true gem. Very kind and helpful administrator, nice common space, overall great atmosphere. There are enough toilets for everyone. And you can leave your luggage for free, unlike in other hostels you have to pay for a storage
after travelling round Italy for 2 weeks the hotel was very luxurious. Very comfortable room, great breakfast. Excellent location for the train station and within walking distance of the city's main attractions. Very helpful and friendly staff
Location was very close to train station and flixbus station, so it was easy to carry my baggages until the hotel. Receptionist helped me a lot, to describe the city, and useful tricks like streets which I have to avoid at night.
Everything was great. Best stay we had in all Italy. The view is extraordinary!!! The owners were the sweetest. Apartment was so modern and beautiful, clean and spacious. Parking was the easiest. And location is also just super!
Apartment was fab, in a perfect location. The staff at Wonderful Italy were so kind. They really looked after us, particularly when our flight was cancelled. I would book with them again without hesitation. Thanks again ♥️💐
Breakfast was generous, the hotel was incredibly close to the train station where we arrived from southern Italy. The rooms seemed to have been recently refurbished, and were more modern than I expected.
Location was great, just a few steps from S. Lorenzo Cathedral, 3 streets from Port Antico. Room was clean and very spacious. We had good facilities and Fabio was a good adversary for Wonderful Italy.
These two ladies saved our trip to Italy! We all liked their warm hospitality, comfort of the room and beds :-)
The breakfast is better than in hotels :-)
