The Lily of the Lake
Overlooking the tranquil waters of Lough Leane, colourful Killarney is a top Irish tourist destination. The UNESCO-listed Killarney National Park surrounds Muckross House, a stately home sitting in large grounds with a traditional farm.
A tree-lined lane leads to Muckross Abbey, a former Franciscan monastery whose cloisters enclose a tall yew tree. Celtic crosses line the cemetery and beyond is the lake, at the centre of which is a tree-lined outcrop, home of the historic Ross Castle. This 15th-century stone fortress once housed the O’Donoghue clan, one of whom reportedly lives at the bottom of the lough.
More legends envelop the Ring of Kerry – a scenic drive starting from Killarney and supposedly the last place to spot a leprechaun. Gushing Torc waterfall is just one of its fantastic sights.
In Killarney itself, horse-drawn carts roam narrow streets whose Irish pubs offer great nightlife. Impressive St Mary’s Cathedral has a towering spire and somewhat dark interior. The local gaelic football team play at Fitzgerald Stadium, and more sports can be enjoyed at Killarney riding stables and the nearby golf and fishing club. There is also a popular racecourse.
Accommodation in Killarney on Booking.com includes 5-star lakeside hotels, B&Bs near the train station and town centre guest houses. All with that trademark Irish hospitality.
We've come to Ireland six times in the past 24 years but...
We've come to Ireland six times in the past 24 years but this was our first visit to Killarney. Killarney is very low on our list of places we have been. It's too crowded and touristy for our taste and, quite frankly, the Americans there acted like jerks. (As an American, I can say that.) We stayed for two nights, but could have done with one. I wanted to go to see the Gap of Dunloe, but the major jaunting car company, Killarney Jaunting Cars, did not offer a tour unless you took their Gap of Dunloe adventure package at 115 euro a pop. It was also 115 euro to rent a jaunting car from a private driver which was too expensive. We couldn't even see Torc Waterfall because we couldn't find a place to park our car. It was ridiculous. What we did: a visit to Ross Castle and Muckross Abbey, plus a jaunting car/boat excursion in the Killarney National Forest could have been done in a day. We will not be returning to Killarney again.

So magical, sparkling clean, charming fairytale steets with shopping and pubs. Great food. Too much to see for our 1.5 day stay. Beats Disneyland! As reported from a late 1950s Orange County California native! Must find a way to come back to stay in Killarney and have the time to explore Ring of Kerry in full, Kenmare, spend time doing outdoor activities and enjoy the local horseback riding, boat rides, and so much more. What Ireland dreams are made from!!

Hotel beautiful perfect.
Hotel beautiful perfect. My wife who always traveled with me died earlier this year of MND Disease and I was visiting all the places we you to stay on our trips. As I have already said the parking ticket I got for parking in what I was led to believe was a disabled zone has put a very bad taste in my mouth. I would have to think seriously about visiting Killarney again.

We were very disappointed that the Killarney National Park visitor center and Ross Castle weren’t open and especially that there was no acknowledgement of that on their website. That was our main reason to visit Killarney. Understandable about due to weather, but the visitor center was due to renovations.

Highly recommend the place 👌👌
Of all the places we stayed in our nearly 3 week trip in Ireland, the Killarney Lodge was our favorite. The location is excellent as it is steps away from the entrance to the national park, rail station, shops and restaurants but it is not in the noisy and congested city center. The hotel’s grounds and its interior decorations and furnishings were impeccably clean and attractive. The staff was vey knowledgeable and helpful. And breakfasts were filled with healthful and flavorful options. Would definitely come back.
We brought my in laws to Ireland as a Christmas present and all was well until my father in laws health took a bad turn and he was having a difficult time walking. The Brehon staff quickly acquired a wheel chair that we were given free use of for several days. His ability to walk has returned for the present and we were very lucky to have such accommodating staff and such a magnificent hotel. The spa was absolutely magnificent and the food and service at the bar was stellar.
Me and my three best friends stayed at the Failte and we loved it. The hotel had such a welcoming atmosphere, and the staff were so helpful and kind. The views from the room and the location in town were perfect. We walked through the national park to see Ross Castle, and had dinner and listened to live music at O’Donoghue. We also used the Hop-On Hop-Off bus tour to visit the Muckross house. It was an amazing stay in Killarney, we definitely recommend it.
On arrival the staff very welcoming and helpful, the hotel was highly clean and inviting, the room was ideal, spacious and extremely comfotable, and more then i expected for price. The meals were exceptional especially thecbreakfast inclusive. The amenities and club vitae were of very good to hight standard and it was close to town centre a 5 min taxi at most. Very satisfied
Great value option for a Killarney stay. The lobby area is stunning, excellent friendly staff and service, rooms very comfortable, with nice little touches, shower pressure was excellent. Location is close to the National Park - just opposite the Lake Hotel- with views of the mountains, and a short drive from the town centre.
Staff are fantastic and so friendly and approachable.
Beds are very comfortable and bedroom was warm and cosy clean.
Location was ideal, short walk to town centre.
Parking is available on site at no cost .
Tea and coffee available in room.
Excellent breakfast options offered.
The location right in town centre with public parking right next to it.They do have an underground car park but at really busy times it fills up quickly. The breakfast was a buffet style affair which was excellent with a good choice of hot cooked and continental style food.
I loved staying at the Lake Hotel! Beautiful lake view room with sitting area, balcony and jacuzzi tub. Delicious breakfast, and also dinner in the Bistro restaurant. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Excellent location to walk to Killarney National Park.
Sandra and John were wonderful hosts. Very pleasant and helpful with directions, recommendations, anything we needed. Short walk to the downtown area with all the shops, restaurants, etc. Yet quiet area. Would stay again if ever back in Ireland. Definitely recommend.
Great location, walking distance to great pubs, shops and restaurants, loved the fireplace in our room, breakfast was off the charts, literally the best we had in Ireland, staff was amazing and super helpful, we would 100% stay here again!

Great value for money. Excellent facilities for a small hotel/guest house. Lovely breakfast and staff were welcoming and friendly. Great location, quiet but within walking distance of the town centre.
Lovely room, breakfast, and hosts! Only a few kms from town centre, so was in a nice quiet area but still convenient since we had a car. And minutes from Muckross House and various hiking trails.
Lovely hotel in Killarney town centre. Great value for money. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room was clean and comfortable. Will definitely book when returning to Killarney.
