Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaSqueaky stairs leading to rooms (not a big deal at all). Showers had nowhere to put stuff while showering except for small hooks.
Great vibes! Very clean. Nice communal areas and appliances. Modern rooms with privacy curtains on bunks!! Lockers for valuables was handy.

The location, the kitchen and laundry facilities, the terrace, the ambiance... The room size, the comfortable mattress, windows for ventilation and as the beds are curtained allows you to keep a minimum of decent privacy

IrelandI wrote everything in the other paragraph because I forgot how this site works
It's hard to find an actual good-for-money hostel in London but I think this is the closest you will get! Okay admittedly I'm not someone who cares too much about social opportunities in hostels, but it is a bit limited. The bathrooms are quite small and need hooks or shelves. The mattresses are too firm for my liking and the beds could also do with shelves for your phone etc. There are other minor flaws but they don't bother me so much, and the location makes up for them. I just wanna give a big shout out to Robert, the manager. He clearly cares a lot about this place which I could tell from conversations he had with me and other guests. If you have any issues do not be afraid to talk to him! And having free laundry is a big plus too. I think this may be the only hostel I'll willingly return to in London.

SwitzerlandOne thing that could be better are the pots and pans in the self-catering kitchen. While almost everything else looked new, they seemed cheap, old and used. I saw no frying pan with somewhat intact interior coating. Also, I could find no cutting board. Also, the location is not great. It's on a street with noisy traffic (day and night) and littering along the sides. There is an outdoor deck which I did not feel like using despite nice weather because of the traffic noise. However, this isn't something that can be changed; you get earplugs for more peaceful sleep; and public transportation takes you somewhere else quickly. Upon arrival, check-in takes place at another hostel about 1.2 miles away. This adds a little detour to your trip. On the upside, it is well organized, and I understand there are logistical and safety reasons for doing it that way. When leaving, it is not necessary to go back to the other hostel, key can be left at the Cricketers.
This is a small hostel with an exceptionally friendly atmosphere. The manager on site is very caring and very passionate about making people's stay comfortable and safe. He very quickly responded to my Whatsapp message when I needed it. Many extremely useful amenities and thoughtful extras are available and included in the price: washer and drier, earplugs, refrigerator and food storage space, labels for labeling our food, adapters for electric sockets, lockers with well-functioning locks. Beds in dorms have curtains around them, so you have a little bit more privacy than in ordinary dorm beds. The hostel's interior has been freshly renovated in 2023 (according to the manager) and things are in good working order. The bathrooms are cleaned several times a day and the last cleaning time is visible. In my case, how clean it actually was when using it was a bit variable - depending on how long ago the last cleaning took place - but far better than the average UK hostel. Bed sheets felt very new and very clean. I was able to check in late (past 11 pm) and leave early (7.30 am) without any issue. Also, I was happy to be able to use the self-catering kitchen for some quick, warm meals. All other guests that I met were friendly and considerate. I warmly recommend staying here if you are on a budget.

United KingdomOne of the shower heads was damaged - not a problem as there were enough bathrooms but never noticed until the last minute. The USB on the bedside plugs stopped working. This was reported but not sure if it was fixed. I’m 45 and this is my first hostel I’ve stayed in. I would definitely use this place again when visiting London. Very pleasantly surprised.
It has full laundry facilities including an iron which when you’re travelling light is a big plus. WiFi. All the facilities you’d expect. Nice little sun trap on the roof terrace.

FranceI'll be very specific but I believe they are all very easily doable improvements and just details. The bathrooms where not thoroughly cleaned (the floors and sinks were ok but the other ''surfaces especially the shower system and other random surfaces were quite dirty). The hangers in all the bathrooms are very very tiny you'll be lucky to hang more than a t-shirt on it. The bedrooms really lacks of hangers for jackets/towels (there are none), even more in such a rainy area I dont' know what I would have done with my jacket if it had rained during my stay. And lastly, I believe the pots in the kitchen have really made their time, it could be good for every one's safety to change them before the handle of one of them breaks while someone is handling hot food...
The intimacy in the rooms thanks to the curtains and the beds in general, the provided towels, the fact that there is an outside space, the kitchen in general, the free whashing machines (even if I didn't use it). All in all it's quite ok for the price !
