Hvar is the largest city on the Croatian island of the same name within the Adriatic Sea. The wildly undulating coastline formed a natural harbour here, a fact which didn’t go unnoticed by the Venetians, who captured it as part of their empire. The Venetian Fortress sits atop a hill and 13th-century ramparts descend to the old town.
Another castle from Napoleonic times is on a different hill offering beautiful views over red roofs towards the offshore Pakleni islands sheltering the port. Ferries link Hvar to neighbouring Brač and Vis islands, Split and Ancona in Italy.
Given the size of the city, the amount of Hvar accommodation is staggering, and Booking.com offers everything from luxury hotels with pools to cheap guest houses and beachfront apartments. Although most beaches are rocky, their scenic setting and warm turquoise waters are still a draw.
At the heart of the city is the largest square in Dalmatia. Restaurants and bars spill out onto its cobbles, ending at St Stephen’s Cathedral with its see-through belltower. Around the same time the cathedral was going up, one of Europe’s oldest theatres was constructed in the waterfront Arsenal. The Loggia is the only remain of the Governor’s Palace, and the Hvar Heritage Museum helps to put all this in context.

Beautiful old town.
Beautiful old town. Spectacular view of many surrounded island from the Napoleon trail. The city provided plenty of seating benches throughout the city and rural. I visited other towns in this island that have the same relaxing standards. Thanks to the Croatia government.
However, October was not a good month to get access to island tours and most restaurants. I was told that April to September is when the businesses open fully.

I only went to the old town, arriving by ferry in the evening. Absolutely beautiful but even in October it was way, way over touristed. I decided to stop contributing to the problem myself by changing my plans and leaving early the next morning.

Hvar is incredibly charming and I wish we could have stayed a few more days. It's a high energy environment with young and older tourists alike, gorgeous historic spots like the Fort and really great shopping (dresses, jewelry, pretty handbags on trend all reasonably priced from a Boston perspective).

Hvar is for you if you love being near the water and sitting in the sunshine. Things i wish I’d taken, more cash, many places operate on a cash only basis and they cash machines charge up to €10 to withdraw from. The cheapest bakeries which are also delicious are near the bus station. Bring insect repellent and insect bite treatments and also bring your own sunscreen as it is incredibly expensive to purchase it on the island.
Take shoes you can comfortably walk up and down stairs in and on cobbled streets.
Best places to east for me were Kantun, Coffee snob, sweet treats bakery and Fig Hvar.

Hvar has the most beautiful water I have ever seen, if you take a trip with a taxi boat to one of the smaller island, you'll have a wonderful time. There's a nude beach where fortunately not a lot of people go to cause they're scared of nakedness.
Its super party touristy in the main town. Rich british boys and old white men.. everything is super expensive. There's no buses driving around the island so you'll have to rent a scooter or walk a long distance.
Beach Bay Hvar is a fantastic find in Hvar. A short walk to Hvar centre this hotel is a gem with beautiful sweeping views out towards the islands. Well equipped hotel, beautifully appointed rooms with balconies and a large bathroom. Comfortable with the right amount of luxury! Breakfast was absolutely fantastic. Staff were so friendly and more than accomdating. Beautiful terrace with day beds over looking beach bay and towards the monastery. A great stay!
Beautiful room in the heart of Hvar, close to the marina (and ferries arrival) and to the heart of the village. The room is part of the Heritage hotel and shares its facilities, but is located two streets away. This is not a problem since the staff is extremely helpful with the luggage and any other issue: honestly, very grateful for that.
The breakfast is served in a beautiful patio in the shadow: nice, good and cozy. I strongly recommend this place!
Amazing staff, comfortable rooms, amazing food. Included breakfast was a nice buffet with a good selection and free unlimited coffees. Staff will drive you to Hvar town (5-10) mins for 70 kuna (~9 euros) which was 1/3 of the fare to get to the hotel from Hvar. The location is also amazing - close to several (varying beaches). You can also get free chairs for the beach or paddle boards/ kayaks and free towels to take to the beach
The hotel is beautiful and in a great location. A 10 minute walk away from the hustle and bustle but far enough away to get some peace and quiet by the sea. Breakfast was lovely and we had an evening meal in the restaurant one night which was so nice! Best food we had in Hvar. The staff were so helpful and they picked up our luggage straight from the ferry so we didn’t have to carry it to the hotel ourselves.
It was a large spacious property, plenty of space in the rooms. We were upgraded to a partial sea view room as we were on honeymoon and the room was beautiful. It was rebels renovated with a stunning bathroom and a large couch and walk in closet area. The hotel was only an 8-10 minute walk from Hvar old town and the hotel will collect your bags diff the boat so that you don’t have to carry them.
We loved everything about this hotel. Best idea was to not stay directly in the port city but a short 10 min walk outside. We had the best view out of any hotel. The pool area was amazing!! Great staff and service but the water was ice cold (went 3rd week in September but still warm out). The food…. absolutely delicious. Best food we’ve had on our trip!!
Lovely family owned property. Petar and his daughter Ana were amazing hosts at this idyllic remote spot near Hvar town. The crystal clear waters gave great opportunity for swimming, cayaking, snorkeling etc. We ate at the hotel 2 nights and enjoyed the BBQ with amazing Dorada and Sea Bream the first night and turbot on the 2nd.
Accommodation was great, perfect place for relax, close to the best beaches (Pokojní dol, Mekicevica, Robinson beach) but at the same time good walking distance to the Hvar town. Owners were extremely helpful and hospitable so it made our holiday perfect. We would definitely recommend this place.
I had a very nice stay at Hotel Park, I would definitely recommend it and will stay here again if I come back to Hvar!
the location is very nice, calm, few minutes walk from the harbour, and the old fortress as well as beaches around.
Restaurant and café offer very nice food and menus!
Thank you
Location very good, 2min to Hvar port, but still quiet in the night. The hotel is newly remodeled, very stylish and clean. Our room is fronting the sea side, view is amazing. The personnel at reception are all very kind and helpful. A lot of choices for breakfast and the dishes are fresh cooked.
The location and outside space at the hotel is perfect.
There is loads of places to relax on their private terraces and right beside the water.
It is a good 15-20min walk into Hvar but we enjoyed doing this walk as it’s mainly along the waterfront and a nice change of scene
Location is amazing, right in the heart of Hvar. The room was very clean and tidy. The host Kristina is amazing. She even let us have a late checkout due to our late ferry timings and answered all of our questions. The free breakfast at central park hotel was great.
the room is clean and comfortable , the staff came to ferry port helping us to bring luggage to the hotel , my hubby got injury when we were biking in Hvar, the staff is very helpful , he brought us bandage and ice to handle the swelling wound. highly recommend
It was a perfect stay! The hotel is very nice and the staff are incredible, so nice and accommodating. The BB Club is a perfect spot for watching everything in beautiful Hvar! Its also very close to the ferry and a short walk to everything in Hvar town.
Beautiful courtyard with pool and lounge chairs. Excellent location in Hvar. We had room 1, with kitchen. Very roomy with 5 windows that opened wide. Superb view if the fortress and town. Lovely host. Super clean, quiet place just steps from the center
Was really impressed, some reviews had made us wonder what it would be like but great place to stay in Hvar. Pool bar and drinks/food at hotel were great and reasonably priced.
The area is quiet and they are helpful with setting up transfers to and from the town. It is a fine hotel 10 minutes away from Hvar town next to a beautiful beach.
